Optimised Battery Charging

Electric Car Charging Reimagined

  • Project 4.0
  • Teamwork, Python and Deep Learning

Project 4.0 is one of the largest and most ambitious projects Iโ€™ve undertaken. Our team, named Verax, aimed to resolve the charging station issues at Corda Campus, Elision. We developed a centralized system to manage all charging stations and parking spaces seamlessly.

With a vision for a future where electric charging is effortless and stress-free, I took charge of the Artificial Intelligence component. To address issues from sunlight and misaligned cameras, I applied various augmentation techniques, such as cropping, brightness adjustment, and rotation. Ultimately, we implemented a deep learning model that robustly identifies parking spaces regardless of camera position.

Verax is more than just a charging station reservation system; itโ€™s a tool that enhances workplace collaboration around electric charging. I’m incredibly proud of what we designed, and I look forward to continuing this work. Thanks to Thomas More, Iโ€™ve gained invaluable insights into AI and teamwork in a professional setting.

PHP Project

Staff management system with Laravel

  • PHP Course
  • Teamwork, HTML, PHP, database management and JS

From the beginning, our project has been centered around our client, Laurien. We started by actively listening to her needs and aspirations to create the ideal web application she envisions. Laurien’s primary requirement was a unified system to manage all her information efficiently.
Collaboratively, we decided on blue as the main color theme for the application, as it represents cleanliness and stability, and we all agreed it enhances the overall aesthetic appeal.
To ensure robust user support, we implemented a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section along with comprehensive tutorials. These tutorials are particularly beneficial for elderly users due to their clarity and ease of maintenance.
Simplicity was key in designing the navigation bar. We opted for a straightforward design with minimal drop-down menus, ensuring that essential pages are easily accessible. Less frequently used features, such as “update profile,” can be conveniently accessed by clicking on the avatar in the top right corner.
Ultimately, this project significantly streamlines tasks for the end user, saving them considerable time. While it has been challenging, building on the foundations of the PHP course from semester one, it has been incredibly rewarding to witness the project’s progress from inception to its current state.

BeFree

Social media rethinked

  • Entrepreneurship course
  • Teamwork & entrepreneural mindset

This was a very interesting project. In a group of three, our goal was to invent a product or service that would significantly improve people’s lives. We developed “BeFree,” a revolutionary platform that transcends traditional social media to become the new standard for personalized news. Local companies can advertise, while individuals receive tailored news updates.

Here’s why BeFree stands out:

Free and Inclusive Service:
BeFree is completely free for regular users. They can access all content, interact with others, and utilize all user-specific features without any cost. Our revenue model is based on advertising fees paid by companies, which allows us to keep the service free for users.

Support for Local Businesses:
We focus on providing an affordable advertising platform for smaller local businesses, ensuring they aren’t overshadowed by larger corporations. This support promotes local economic development, reduces transportation emissions, and creates more employment opportunities. By integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into our mission, we aim to foster a better, more sustainable future.

Simplified Advertising:
Local businesses can easily create a profile with their name and logo and subscribe to a paid tier, enabling automatic advertisements targeted at interested customers. This eliminates the need for expensive ad creation, making it accessible for all businesses.

Verified Profiles for Larger Companies:
Major companies like HLN and Apple can create verified profiles with a “large company” badge. This allows them to inform users about important updates and changes. This feature helps differentiate BeFree from other platforms, ensuring users receive reliable and important news, not fake news or trivial posts.

Custom Article Designer:
BeFree offers a unique custom article designer for creating engaging posts with attractive layouts. Unlike Instagram, which offers reels, normal posts, videos, and storiesโ€”often leading to complexityโ€”BeFree keeps it simple. Verified companies and trusted users can create custom pages and articles, filtering out irrelevant content and emphasizing quality information.

A New Social Media Paradigm:
BeFree merges the best elements of Instagram and Twitter by allowing verified users to create custom pages and articles, fostering a community centered on valuable information and local support.

The Vision:
Our vision for BeFree is to create a simple, efficient social media platform that truly serves its users. We aim to support people, local businesses, and companies, realizing the original purpose of social mediaโ€”connecting and empowering communities.

Communication

What is diversity?

  • International communication

OneWebsite

.NET website

  • DevOps
  • .NET programming

This was a very intresting project, it really gave me some basic insights in what .NET actually is. Sometimes it was very challenging because I tried it the hard way and didn’t use dotnet3.1 like they used in the tutorial. I just challenged myself and tried it with the newest .net so I needed to merge some files later on. That was so difficult because there was no tutorial or any information online about it. So I just tried everything and used my brain until it worked. Overall very nice, learn full and challenging project.

Learning how to work with Kubernetes

  • Linux webservices
  • Containers, Docker and Kubernetes

This project was both challenging and educational. I worked with Kubernetes to create a reliable, versatile system. Despite many errors, I gained a deep understanding of Kubernetes and its applications.
Running Kubernetes locally, which is typically used on external Linux servers, presented unique challenges. I successfully created and deployed an image to Docker Hub and ran it in Kubernetes. The NGINX server is running successfully, and MariaDB was operational until load balancing caused the pods to crash due to a time/region issue. This project taught me how to load balance a stack, work with Prometheus, and handle various components. While integrating them remains a challenge, I now have the skills to do so. This was an interesting and demanding project that I thoroughly enjoyed.
